Mavacor™ (Mavacamten) — Obstructive HCM Therapy for Cats

A cardiac myosin inhibitor for cats diagnosed with obstructive HCM. Titrated individually by the veterinarian with echocardiographic follow-up — alongside your cardiologist.

A different lever on the same disease

Mavacamten is a cardiac myosin inhibitor: it acts directly on the contractile protein of the heart muscle, easing the excessive contraction that, in the obstructive form of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, narrows the outflow tract while the heart squeezes. In human medicine the molecule is fully approved for obstructive HCM. In cats it is investigational: published feline studies are small and early, showing reduced outflow-tract obstruction after dosing — a real signal, and not yet a settled treatment. No medicine anywhere is licensed to treat feline HCM.

How it differs from our rapamycin therapy

The two act on different parts of the disease, and a cardiologist chooses between them — or neither. Rapamycin is studied for slowing the thickening of the heart wall in subclinical disease. Mavacamten addresses the obstruction itself in cats whose HCM is obstructive. One is aimed at the course of the disease, the other at its mechanics.

Where this fits

  • For cats with a diagnosed, obstructive form of HCM — confirmed by echocardiography, not suspected from a murmur.
  • It does not replace your cardiologist. Dosing is set low and adjusted individually, and every adjustment is guided by echocardiographic follow-up.
  • Because the mechanism reduces the force of contraction, cats with reduced systolic function are not candidates, and the veterinary review screens for this before anything is dispensed.

How the therapy works

A small once-daily oral tablet (1 mg strength). The dose is fractions of a tablet, titrated by the prescribing veterinarian from the cat’s weight, response and echo findings — there is no fixed program strength, by design.

Veterinary oversight, included

Every order begins with a licensed veterinarian’s review of your cat’s history and cardiac workup. Cats without a confirmed obstructive HCM diagnosis, and cats whose echo shows reduced contractile function, are declined. Medication is dispensed under veterinary prescription. Lab-tested to a 99.9% purity standard.

What sold me was the honesty. They were clear that it is a prescription medicine reviewed by a vet, not a supplement. That is exactly why I trust it.
